NOW THAT I'M IN THE PICTURE

Sitting on a sofa in the waiting room at St. John's
Flipping through an album of our family photographs
He's blowin' out nine candles on his picture perfect cake
Looking back I wish I could have been a better dad

My tearts pour out onto the page
And I know now - I'm here to stay

I wasn't there when he was growing up
And I know that he felt cheated
I gave him everything a boy could want
          And nothing that he needed
I broke his heart and I'm aware
There's an awful lot to fix here
But things are gonna change I swear
Now that I'm in the picture

Skipping through some pages to his early teenage years
Here's one with his buddy, and it looks like they were stoned
I wish I couldn've been there, and kept him off that junk
He never would have had this almost fatal overdose

My tears pour out onto the page
And I know now - I'm here to stay

I wasn't there when he was growing up
And I know that he felt cheated
I gave him everything a boy could want
          And nothing that he needed
I broke his heart and I'm aware
There's an awful lot to fix here
But things are gonna change I swear

I wasn't there when he was growing up
And I know that he felt cheated
I gave him everything a boy could want
          And nothing that he needed
I broke his heart and I'm aware
There's an awful lot to fix here
But things are gonna change I swear
Things are gonna change I swear
Things are gonna change I swear
Now that I'm in the picture

Bill came to my place with an idea that morphed into this over the course of two or three sessions.

A father with a lot of regrets.  In a hospital waiting room looking through a family photo album
and seeing how he's NOT in a lot of the pictures.  Thinking how things could have been, and WILL be
different now . . . now that he's in the picture!

As we do a lot . . . most of the melody was me, the progression (chords) was Bill, and the lyrics
were very much a combined effort.
