FIRE UNDER THE BRIDGE

What are you doin’ here, no you can’t come on in
You had your chance to talk, but you blew it back then
Well of course I remember the times that we shared
So you’re sorry you hurt me, why should I care?

It’s all Fire Under the Bridge
Too late to put the flames out
Because fire under the bridge
Already burned it down

You have got to be joking, don’t make me laugh
Did you really think I’d be taking you back?
I can never forgive what you did to my heart
On the day I caught you in another man’s arms

That’s Fire Under the Bridge
Too late to put the flames out
Because fire under the bridge
Already burned it down

I would have loved you for all time
But that went up in smoke

In a Fire Under the Bridge
Too late to put the flames out
Because fire under the bridge
Already burned it down

Already burned it down
Already burned it down

Seth came up with the title on this one.  I started noodling around on my guitar, thinking that I was letting myself get distracted away from our session.  Seth liked what I was doing and we soon realized that it went well with the lyric.  The 'germ' of the story lyrically was an all-too-real personal experience (mine - tweaked quite a bit for this lyric).  This song was written over about four sessions and ten months.  I hear it as a song for my "Griffin" persona - pretty much a rock song, but can be done country/rock.   It would certainly be fitting for a woman to sing as well.
